Potteric Carr 2010

Birders GroupWe thought we would try Potteric Carr at a different time of year, although we knew that there was a 'mega' bird visiting - an Iberian Chiffchaff had mistakenly hooked up with returning Chiffchaffs and found itself in the wrong country! This was only the second recorded for Yorkshire, and for all of us a 'lifer'.

How did we recognise it? Well, the bunch of birders with telescopes all trained up into a tree was a bit of a clue, but it did the decent thing and sang for us - it has a spanish accent . . . well at least a different song from the usual 'chiff chaff' that we are used to.

We managed to see a good number of warblers, along with good views of a Little Ringed Plover, although we missed the Hobby chasing the Swifts that we did see! 50 species altogether, with six new for the group (in italics).
