Year of Listening: June 2015 to June 2016

The Christchurch 'Year of Listening' was launched at our services on Sunday 21 June 2015. During the coming 12 months we will be offering opportunities for us individually and as groups to find space to listen to God and what he is saying about our Church, our community and the wider world.
!f you have questions speak to one of the planning group - Juliet Amos, Jeannie Buckroyd, Merle Collins, Margaret Cook, Rob Hilton, Fiona Kendall and Chris Mannall.

A Church Weekend Away (Nov 2015)
A weekend away will be arranged at a retreat centre within two hours travel such as Scargill House or Sneaton Castle, Whitby. The theme will be on 'Listening for Advent' and will focus on listening to each other, learning to discern God's voice and avoiding distractions. (Budget cost £110 to £125 per person plus travel).

A Retreat with the Northumbria Community (7-1O March 2016)
Walking in the footsteps of the Saints - a led retreat which offers time and space to reflect on your own journey with Christ during this season of Lent. (Budget cost £165 per person plus travel).

A Visit to Iona (Saturday to Friday, May or June 2016)
The Island of Iona is known as a 'thin place' between heaven and earth where God feels to be particularly close at hand. We would stay as guests of the Iona community on the isle of Iona or nearby Mull which are places of welcome and hospitality. The experience will involve listening to strangers as you become friends and will provide space to listen to still small voice within and reflect on your place in the world. There was an article in the July Wider Horizons giving more details and at both the services on 9 August Fiona Kendall will provide a 'taster, of Iona-style worship. (Budget cost £365 per person for accommodation and meats plus £85 travel from Glasgow).

St Cuthbert's Way (30 April to 4 May 2016)
St Cuthbert's Way is a long distance footpath running from Melrose to Holy Island. A group will follow in the ancient tradition of pilgrimage as they travel the 65 mile footpath together. The walk has an optional 30 mile extension south through Bamburgh to Craster on the Northumbrian coast. (Budget cost £300 per person for B&B plus travel).

A variety of shorter opportunities to be quiet and listen
There will also be individual day events which will be local and either free or a small cost. Material will be available to take home and use at home for day retreats. A prayer walk developed for CTI will be available to help us tune in to the community. Our Housegroups will be considering the spirituality of listening after Christmas 2015.
