Scope (the Sunday evening young people’s group) has decided to donate the money allocated to them by the World and Society Group to a charity called Toilet Twinning. The charities Cord and Tearfund have got together to found a unique way to help transform lives in poor communities around the world. This money, together with money raised by Scope, will mean that we will be able to sponsor nine toilets where they are desperately needed.
Look out in the church toilets for the ‘twinning ‘certificates. The money raised helps provide access to better sanitation, clean water and hygiene education – helping poor communities enjoy better health, go to school and work and ultimately, to begin to flush away poverty.
It is reckoned that for every £1 spent on water and sanitation projects in the third world, £8 is returned through saved time, increased productivity and reduced health costs.
Have a look at their great web site and you might be inspired to twin your toilet.
