Lent 2012

LENT is traditionally seen as a period of forty days ‘fasting’ - the time Jesus spent in the desert after his baptism and prior to his public ministry.
In common culture, this has become a time for ‘giving something up’ as a way of signalling that personal desire is no longer central in our lives.
A modern focus is to positively ‘do something for’ Lent, such as support a charity, read a book about Easter, try more Fairtrade items.
It is a time of preparation for Easter, to reflect on our lives and to renew our understanding of what Easter means for us, with the promise of newness of life for us all through Jesus.

Each week, a card is available to encourage to read, pray, go and act - to 'take up' rather than 'give up' for Lent. These can be collected from Christchurch, or downloaded below.
